did malcolm post recently about a modified hose that helps a wobble coming up to the steering wheel on w220s

i've got this at about 70mph

under 60 is ok and it will pull through it at about 80

it seems very sensitive to ripply road surfaces and seems to bobble in a rubbery sort of way

the bush on the front lower control arm is cracked. will this affect tracking etc when i replace the whole arm

Yes wheel balance is the first to go for, as you can drive in and out of the wobble.
If the the rod that needs replacement is adjustable, then the tracking will need to be done, if the ends are fixed, then no it will not .

The mod hose is only for SBC and noise. You could have a steering damper, but do not worry about that now, it is not the problem

Start with front wheel balance, most garages can do this and it does not need a dealership involvement. Always 80 shake starts and 100/110km shake stops. Its classic wheel balance problems.;)

funny you should say that i consistantly have problems getting accurate wheel balancing done ...tried a few different places.

has any one heard of a bubble balancer

i might have to kit up to do my own balancing 'cos i'm gradually cheesing off every tyre shop in town by returning and returning till i'm happy.

the last time took 4 attempts

but then seems to go out of balance again in 5000 miles or less

You might try and find a tyre fitter that has a machine that can do wheel balances with the wheels still on the car, or one that can simulate the weight of the vehicle and the surface of the road while balancing.

If a tyre has a small blister or isn't perfectly round, a normal static/dynamic balance won't necessarily balance that out, because the tyre is spinning in the air with no pressure pushing against it.

If you balance it with the weight of the car on it the deformity in the tyre becomes apparent, and the machine may be better able to balance it out.

Do a google for hunter gsp9700 in the uk, see if you can find a local place that has one of these machines. It may be a help.
