The car was fitted from new with 20" AMG 5 spoke wheels (255/35 front and 275/35 rear) I was picking up quite a lot of wheel damage and also tyre damage, which I put down to prolonged use on Spanish roads. Having read in several places that these wheels do not give the smoothness and comfort that the car is capable of I decided to investigate. My dealer very generously gave me a new set of 18" 5 spoke wheels (5) with 255/45/18 continental tyres. The improvement in comfort is actually noticable and though not too bothered about MPG I notice that when previously the computer was reading anywhere between 26-32 it now never seems to go below 33-34 on a journey. Only the rear tyres have changed in width (275-255) And I wondered if the reduction in friction could cause this improvement. My two sons are mortified about changing to standard wheels, but I will have the AMG wheels refurbished and put them back on when the car comes to be sold. I think it looks less like a gypsy caravan now.
