Cant answer if all these emission devices can be defeated by software hardware modifications but if so there should be no negative impact unless on your Mercedes warranty (if still applicable) and the environment.

They earn more money by getting their lumps of recycled metal and plastic with stupid mood lighting back into the shop every week for;
- diagnostics
- sensors
- diagnostics
- software
- diagnostics injectors
- diagnostics
- tank replacements
- repeat
- sell the idiots another new car

Sad as it takes a lot for me to like a car. My life currently doesn’t have room for this tedious crap with cars.

Thanks for that eBay link, I’ll make an account and get some ordered.

Well took a trip into Tesco’s this evening and message on the the screen has not reappeared and the EML has gone off, all on its own. Still going on in on Monday so I’ll update this after with anything they find.

Perhaps these modern heaps of recycled plastic can’t handle a few hours of brisk use.

Well you will have a stored historic code for the garage to have a nosey with.
You may wake tomorrow and the lump of plastic will say 10 miles to being bricked.

The way things are going you soon won’t be able to start/operate a car without approval of a MB satellite in space.
From conception I always thought EU6 diesels were designed to hold the owner to ransom and the EU were happy to be complicit in this talk about Big Brother whatever next

I'm thanking my lucky stars we went hybrid with the price of fuel and the crap involved with modern diesel engines. Diesel engines should have been phased out after euro 4

Personally Kev, If I was going down that road, I'd have gone full electric, but that's just me. How do you find it? I think that I'll stick to the Eclass for a long time yet though.

Yes I was keen to go full electric too Jim but wife is the main driver and the plug in hybrid with 32miles range was ample for the time being. The wife only does a 15 mile round trip to work so we see big savings already and its quite good on hybrid mode on longer weekend journeys which aren't frequent. I can charge it at home for around £1.80 for 32 miles give or take. When we get more familiarised with electric and when the public charging infrastructure gets upgraded the next move is full electric for a family car. Dont think theres many full electric vehicles on offer to equal the comfort of an E class:)

Kev, I'd say that whether we like it or not, unless they develop a near to zero emission ICE, EV will be the future. The first of my Grandkids recently got her driving license, and her first car will be a petrol Golf. But I'd say her 2nd car will be electric. Its the way things are going, one way or another the powers that be are determined to push ICE cars off the roads. Punitive taxes, higher insurance for older cars etc. and that will be that. And its started already. I saw a scrapper truck the other day, loaded with cars destined for end of life treatment, but I'm damn sure that lots of them had plenty of life left in them.

Your right there Jim, the big push is on for the move to full electric but as usual badly handled by the government and goal posts keep changing too quickly to make people believe its a good financial and sensible move. We all buy electric and find out just for one scenario that the domestic grid cant support all these chargers and then the price of electric, where's that heading? Price of fuel match eventually? I even have to pay extortionate road tax on this "Hybrid" which doesn't come as a big surprise these days.

So MB Centre advised that whilst the EML had gone out, the only thing they can see after hooking it up is a software update, which they will not do without my authorisation.

I said don’t bother leave it as is as I’ve read some stuff about the software causing havoc of its own and the car drives epic as is.

I’m surprised that Merc doesn’t sell it if it saves them doing all the remedial work to fix the Adblue after it has crystallised
Prop cos parts are such a good entrapment scheme for them

The same reason why drugs companies exist, they never want to cure anybody just keep treating the existing condition.

So last several weeks have been trouble free and I’ve been doing 2 trips to and from Warwickshire every Saturday since the last EML and adblue warning occurred.

Today again at exactly the same point shortly before exiting the motorway, the exact same error popped up.

“Adblue - check owners manual” + eml light.

No adblue count down but the car is booked in at the local Indy this Wednesday for brakes so once again this error has been added to the list. If there are any findings during the work I will report back. Seems like ad blue can’t handle a bit of speed.

The only thing consistent with the occurrence of the errors is, I did a few seriously brisk stints during the drive.

Did you end up adding that Adblue additive to stop it crystallising?

On the second jaunt to Warwickshire this evening I took it easy at 70 ish both ways and warning message and EML have gone out themselves.

I need to get a proper code reader so I can at least read the codes and share as the last time this happened no historic codes were found.

Only thing I can think of is that the high revs throw the NOx sensor out possibly due to the ADBLUE injector being partially blocked no idea whether it can be cleaned

Makes sense what you say. I recall MB centre did say they have cleaned these before so I’ll enquire if it can be done or changed regardless whilst the brakes are being done.
