Had a good look today and it appears the passenger side one definitely has a leak. The intercooler end is covered in oil.

So a couple of questions....
1. What's the trick to getting the damned thing off? There's five eighths of not very much space to get in there and it uses a strange locking mechanism that defied all my efforts to remove it.
2. They seem to be made from unobtainium - can't find anywhere that has them (aside from possibly MB who I've yet to try).
3. Has anyone tried making up a replacement from standard silicone tube pieces and alloy connectors clamped up using mikalor clamps?

Smart + others :)
You used to be able to get just the seal inside the pipe.

I think the pipe itself is damaged - it seems to be touching the hoseclip on the pipe below.

I wouldnt bother with a used pipe at all. If the original had died then sure as hell a used will die within the sane time.
Go for MB original.

Exactly my thinking.

Given this car has had DPF issues in the past as soon as we refit it I'll be going for replacement of any component I'm not 100% on.
As it stands I'm looking at a new intercooler hose (the other hose looks new and was replaced recently) new thermostat (coolant temp never gets above 76° on diags though on board car gauge shows it as a smidge over 80) and possibly a differential pressure sensor though at present the readings may easily be down to the DPF being a pipe so there's nothing to measure.

So a call to Grangemouth MB and (without forum discount) £180 Inc VAT.

Not too bad I guess....

To remove some force is useful, not the recommended method I'm sure.
They 'clip' in 3 places. I withdrew the part that is behind the ally tab of the end. With that part of the 'spring' pulled outward it flares the other 2 parts. From there the pipe should pull backward.

I bought 4 new 'o' ring seals from MB Newcastle through eBay. The chap created a special order at about 34 quids.

A little oil isn't unusual. Much would indicate PCV or turbo issus, and could effect emissions.

Reinstate the spring clip and the end merely pushes back into place.

I'm going to order the tool Uncle Benz showed - £14 on eBay. That should make it a little easier.
New pipe comes with seals so that's all good.
The passenger side end of the intercooler isn't soaked in oil but definitely some there so it has a clear leak somewhere. Other side is as expected - dry and clean as is the join behind the radiator.
