Hi all.

Does anyone know what the various contacts are for on the sliding doors? We have one on the off-side that doesn't fully spring back and the other night the alarm kept going off. I'm wondering if this is the culprit:

Many thanks!

EDIT: And would this be the part number for a replacement? A6398200654

Thanks, @Blobcat .

We also have an intermittent issue with the glow-plug warning light coming on whilst driving. Not always, and it doesn't stay on for the same amount of time, and there's anecdotal evidence out 'there' that the glow-plug warning light might also indicate a problem with the alarm security system. Which sounds bizarre to me, but hey-ho. I've also seen people pooh-pooh that notion, so I don't know one way or the other.

With the sliding door firmly closed, the interior lights go out and we don't get a 'door open' alert when driving off, so I was wondering if that dodgy pin is for the security side of things, rather than the interior lights / drive off alert. Which may, or may not, be causing the glow-plug warning light to, well, glow!

Either way, I've got a line on a replacement part and contact plate.

Thanks, all!

I'll be honest and say w/o looking much deeper I'm not sure what that pin relates to.
There is nothing within the door that is specifically alarm related, but any extra load when alarmed, in that the contact closes later, might well trigger an alarm.
The contradiction there is that if there is a related switch that isn't seen as closed that then inhibits the closing of the 3 rear doors, and the alarm wouldn't set as the van hasn't locked.

Removing the pins for inspection is easy enough. Could it be some crud restricting it?

These pads / pins are interchangeable for the n/s to o/s. Turn 'em upside down and top goes to bottom unit wise.
Sometimes owners have thought a poor contact at the pad prevents locking so change 'em. More often it's a micro switch within the lock mechanism that's goosed.
Whatever don't consider cleaning the pads, that removes their protective coating.

If you are changing the pad in the door pillar be sure to tie off the plug as if it disappears into the pillar the job would be a bitch.

The glow plug issue is more likely a poor contact at a glow plug, aggravated by driving, as a guess.

Thanks, @M80

I took the unit out of the door and took the rubber surround off. The pin appeared to be bent inside somewhere. I partially straightened it out (I didn't want to over do it) and it's springing back as much as the other pins now. The alarm only went off a couple of times one night (after which I left it unlocked for the rest of that night and it's been fine, locked, since) so it might be awhile before I consider it 'fixed'.

As the for the glow-plugs, I'll have to find time to take the engine cover off and see what I can see. I'm not keen on changing them if I don't have to (there seems to be many people saying they can snap off, causing a much bigger problem). The engine starts first time, every time. At least for now. Winter may prove different!

Thanks for all your help!

It needs to get pretty cold for the engine to feel the lack of glow plugs. But so far you don't know if one merely has a poor connection.
Yeh, the skinny ones can twist, and snap. On a 2007 are yours the skinny ones?
If so I would consider plus gas, engine hot, more plusgas, and repeat a few times. When it comes to removal don't apply too much torque, but plusgas, heat some more.
And confirm the glow plug voltage matches the output voltage of the controller, if you change' em.

I have Plusgas. Sounds like I might need more!

But it won't be a project for now. It can wait. I know glow-plugs do more, these days, than just help start a Diesel, but it's running fine. Hopefully....
