The man wishes to take out his straight 6 engine and fit a V8 instead

I would think that wiring would be the final hurdle after fitting the engine, fabricating a bellhousing, mating a gearbox to it, fabricating a complete new exhaust system and plumbing in everything else

As usual with engine swaps I think that if you have to ask the question you're not qualified to do it

Perhaps you should have said Chevrolet Ls1 V8 motor plus transmission. That might have given us a clue.
Why would anyone want to do this?

Hi All

I, too, was mystified by the 'ls1' reference until 'coupe e320' mentioned 'chevy'. 'Ls1' probably means very little to most British members but it has a special significance to 'Stateside members. This is (I think) what 'coupe e320' is referring to. See link.

I'm wondering whether any members of this forum would have undertaken this kind of engine transplant, especially since what's being considered is the shoe-horning in of a Chevrolet V8 rather than Mercedes V8/V12 engine.

I tend to think that such a conversion is possible if you start with a stripped down doner car. There would be a lot of work involved and a huge expense too, but I expect 'coupe e320' has a special reason for taking on such a large project. Unfortunately, most members of this forum won't be able to appreciate what it is.

Maybe the American MB Owners Club would be a better place to raise this particulay inquiry. A 'Stateside enthusiast may well already have cracked the problem.

Coupe e320 - would you like to reveal to this forum's members why you are attempting this transplant?

REGARDS

Phil
