In trying to buy a child booster seat, (with airbag deactivation transponder) for my Merc, I was horrified that my main dealer wanted to charge me 1400% more than the equivalent seat in Halfords.

YES...YOU DID READ CORRECTLY. Mercedes want in the region of £150 for a booster seat that is sold in Halfords for £9.99, all because you HAVE to use their seat in order to turn off the airbag !!

Is it me...???

Can anyone help with an OE new or second-hand booster seat. Only need the booster part, not the whole seat back.

Many, many thanks if you can.

Mercedes nievaty coming out here.

In Peugeot's the passenger airbag is turned off with the ignition key, via a switch on the centre consol...are you saying that Merc passenger airbags can only be turned off by a child seat emmiting a signal to the car?

What an appauling idea...you would think in the quest for passenger safety..especially for children, things like this would be standard equipment.

ps, sorry for being a bit high and mighty, its Friday lunchtime, and ive just got back from the pub after several pints of Stella!!!

Yes , the mercedes passenger front and side airbags are disabled when a mercedes childseat is put close to them . And a small yellow light should come on with " airbag off " next to it. There is only one way in an a class with the removable front seat to switch it off. The way to do this is by disconnecting the small red plug on the bottom of the passenger seat , this will sound an audable tone and the airbag off light should come on. The intended purpose for doing that is to stop the airbags coming out when the car has the seat removed and full of stuff.  I accept no reponsobility for the above information and anything done is at your own risk . It may be best just to buy the seat as this will work in any of the modern merdedes cars with the feature.
