Hi, just joined this site and would welcome opinions of what would be a good Merc to buy.

Ideally i would like a late 80's car or maybe an early 90's so long as it has very limited or better still no computer control. I'd like it to be an auto as I have nasty sciatica down my left leg and would like the car to have a bit of grunt behind it as the couple of 2 litre cars I have driven, although very comfortable, have been rather pedestrian. For the last 6 or 7 years I've run a BM 730 and it's getting rather tired now and computer problems are rather rife with these cars when they get on a bit.

Any tips / buying ideas i would greatly appreciate.

Thanks for your help, Rob.

You could look for a 190E with the 2.6 cosworth engine, but I understand that they are harder to find nowadays. They are fast and well built and you can get them with good option packs, as for electronics - the nightmare of all modern cars - difficult to avoid.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Ideally I'd like a Saloon. On the subject of trying to avoid cars with computers, what age of Merc would I need to look at that has no computer control? Maybe pre-1987? Mmmm! Cossie engine sounds rather neat though!
