Good idea, I know it's probably extra work Mods but, it would be very helpful to all us D.i.y.ers. ;)
Maybe just work it that Indies on the forum here could post counterfeit items they have come across since they are the mass user of parts on here?

You’ll find a lot of the indies will only fit genuine Mercedes parts because of issues with aftermarket and counterfeit

Good info posted here on fake items, Techs may be in the know to look for counterfeits but most DIY,ers may not be aware of the issues with counterfeits. Interesting one on the Bearings DSK. Maybe a good idea if its not already started for Mods to pin a thread on known fake parts floating around?

I only found out about the bearings by coincidence when a set of NTN bearing for my bicycle failed quickly and I couldn't believe it and refused to believe for NTN that this could be. Then I contacted Hambini from youtube who pointed me to fake NTN bearings. I then bought replacements from him and had my faith in the brand restored.

Amazing how good fakes can be so yes, only those with the sharpest of eyes and know how will spot potential fakes.

I FOUND IT … FAKE NTN / SKF BEARINGS

For cars I try to only use FAG, SKF or NTN bearings and they are generally expensive so ideal for the fakers to attack. I have to admit, my NTN bearings were boxed as per Hambini's comparison and I thought nothing more.

Your spot on there Blobcat, aftermarket can be just as expensive labour wise when they dont damn well fit. Seen this with wheel bearings and suspension parts especially.

Problem they have is that if they fit cheap parts and they don‘t work the job takes longer, customers complain and bays can be tied up blocking other work.

Which online motor factors was this purchased from? Might help others to steer clear from buying any Bosch items from them. The retailer may also be unaware, especially if the customers just bins them with no feedback.

For electrical HT replacmentson for my W124 i went over to Beru . Beru parts were used by Mercedes . But i replaced the distributor cap and rotor with Bosch,, because the w124 have the extra cover on and Beru dont . Bosch parts that i purchased are from a well known Bosch dealer .
