I’ve had a quick look online and the sensor is around £70 and the ring is even cheaper surely it can’t be over £900 in Labour
Can it ?

That won't tell you anything useful as it's a generic code reader so will only read the engine ECU.
The ABS module requires an MB specific code reader.

Ok thanks
I will get booked in my local Indy when I can
It seems the message goes once the car is slightly warmer
I will take it for a drive tomorrow
Could bits of surface rust off the disc cause this ?

...

Generally ABS sensors look at a castellated collar to work out differing wheel speeds though I've gleaned from this forum that newer Mercs use something different in the hub. So, no, it won't be surface rust from the disc. ;)

Would having new tyres cause this ?
I had 2 new tyres fitted to the back around 3 week ago
Sorry for all the questions I’m just interested what the cause could be
Thanks

As long as the tyres fitted were the correct size and you gave the correct size tyres fitted to the front then no.

Hi,

Could it be as simple as low voltage in the battery?

You said that the car had been unused for a week when the message first appeared.
It goes away when the car is warmed up could equate to - It goes away when the car has charged the battery adequately.

Is the car on the original main and auxiliary batteries?
At 7 years old they will be on their last legs -- or at least the main battery will be.

Thanks for this
I started the car yesterday and the warning lights were on
I driven for about 1 mile turned the car on and off a few times and eventually the warning lights went off , I then went for a 40 mile drive
When I returned home and turned the car off and then beck on the warning lights were still off
I then left the car for half hour and then started it again and the warnings were back so I’m thinking it a battery problem
What do you all think ?
Cheers

I'd agree. Sounds like the car is losing the steering angle sensor calibration which is a sign that the battery isn't holding charge.
The steering angle sensor recalibrates by driving so explains why the light goes out after the battery gets enough charge.
Not sure on the battery arrangements in your car but this is exactly what the SL does when the secondary battery goes flat (though usually with a lot of other symptoms too).

I’ve got it in for diagnostics tomorrow
Any idea of what I should be paying for a battery if that’s the problem?
Thanks

You will need an AGM battery for your car with stop/start.
My 2011 W204 C220 CDI with stop/start has an AGM 80ah/800A CCA battery.
A Varta brand which is an OEM standard fit costs £150 from Tayna.

I am sure the 'Mercedes Benz' branded version could be significantly more than that.
