I imported my SLK from Germany through a MB dealer in Frankfurt in April 2001.
Due to purchasing the car in Germany I was only issued a 1-year Pan-European Warranty on the SLK which obviously now runs out this April!  My objective now is to extend the warranty?

I have contacted MB in the UK but they informed me that dealerships could only supply an extended warranty?  I have approached several dealers in my area with this dilemma but was politely informed to ?get lost? because I purchased the car abroad.  After contacting MB UK they suggested I contact the RAC, AA or some other 3rd party warranty company!

Has any forum members imported their Mercedes and experienced the same problem?  Or does anybody have any recommendations regarding obtaining an extended warranty package for my SLK?

Much obliged

Warranty Help?

I think you'll have a real problem persuading any dealer or MBUK to help, based on the experience of a friend of mine.
He bought an 18 month old CLK55 privately, not knowing it was an import. When it developed a problem he got absolutely nowhere despite a series of telephone calls and letters.
I don't know about 'aftermarket' warranties, but I wouldn't waste my time chasing after MB if I were you.

Sorry can't be of more help, good luck.

Warranty Help?

Hi all,

We use a warranty company called Motorway Direct, I am reliably informed that they supply the warranties for RAC, Signiture & to MBDirect.

I found them to be reliable and we only use the top of the range warranty. As long as you adhere to there guide lines. They have always paid out.

Regards

Andy @ www.mercedesservicing.com

Warranty Help?

Hi John

MB (used car) Signature warranties are issued by the RAC so I'd have a word with them about an extended warranty for your SLK.   According to my warranty you can contact them direct on 0114 252 6000 or mail them at rac@racwarranty.com

It's a long shot but worth a try.

As for the negative response you got from the UK MB dealerships....you'll have to get used to it as some of them are quite useless.

Welcome to the forum.

Warranty Help?

We had a similar problem with a brand new Vito 108 diesel. We bought this van in '98 via Anchor Vans in Reading. Unfortunately we did not realise that this van was build in '96 but not registered untill '98. Possibly stored somewhere in Ireland for some time. We found this out when we contacted MB UK, after the first time the steering rack packed up within a year and 40.000 miles. The van swirled all over the place wich can be absolutely lethal if this had happened at high speed!  MB only replaced the rack under warranty (approximate cost £1200-00) after many phonecals to MB and threatning with legal action. At 90000 miles the same happened again. This time MB was not interested eventhough we highlighted the danger of this obvious fault in a Vito steeringrack. Just a warning to everyone be carefull with imports and make sure you get the latest spec. if you buy a new car or van via a third party  Faults in early models have possibly been corrected in the same, but later models! If you do buy the first of a new model and intend to keep it for 2 or 3 years make sure you take the extended warranty. It will save you a lot of trouble and headaches in the future, even with a MB.

For your Information:  as of  01.01.2002, all MB?s purchased in Germany now come standard with a 2-year Pan-European Warranty.

Warranty Help?

Let me know how you get on John - my old C-class finishes its warranty in June and given all the things I have found out on this forum that can go wrong with it - I want to  try buying a warranty.  Or extending the signature one( Which is an RAC 'Technicare' warranty. )
I wouldn't be worried about it had I not joined the MBOA and started reading this !

( 96 C-class Elegance with 'that' 5 speed auto! )
