Warranty/ Mechanical Breakdown insurance

I would welcome any comments on experiences with warranty companies. I'm planning to purchase a policy for my 1998 SL320, which has had no problems in the year I've had it, but feel I need some peace of mind, in case of a big bill. Quotes, so far:

Warranty Direct: £537; max for each claim £5k; max per year £5k. Wear & tear included.

Warranty Wise; £279; max each claim £2k; max per year - vehicle value. Wear & tear not included.

Ideally, I won't have to claim at all! So maybe I should be the optimist and go with the cheaper quote.

Gearbox goes? Big bill. Like any insurance, you need to weigh up what you are going to have to lay out vs your risk.

You have to consider the small print of these policies very carefully, the last thing you need is to find out that your not covered when you make a claim. I think that a £2000 limit is too low for your car, I suspect that a major engine or gearbox failure will cost more than that.

i am of the opinion that at the age your car is now I woudlnt bother with a warranty. warranty gives you piece of mind when you buy the car for a year or 3 but then things will start to wear out and break down. generally warranties will start to invoke get out clauses. preventative maintenace will be the best option i think.....


altho i am willing to hear opposing views that may offer some light into the why's and wherefores of the warranty pro's
