Warranty on paint work

Does anyone know the facts of the Mercedes paint warranty? I have a CLK320 Rreg. It has the usual rust on the boot lid above the plate. I have seen this on so many Mercedes'. I was told by my garage that I could book it in with a main dealer for a 'paint inspection' and that Mercedes would pay for either repairs or replacement.
Is this correct? If so, how many years is it valid? Cheers!

The general rule appears to be 8 years but it seems to vary on a whim. FMBSH is also a pre-requisite. Whatever the case, its worth calling into the dealer and asking. People have had mixed results but as its a goodwill warranty you never really know.

Take it to the dealers anyway. Always worth a try.

Friend of mine took his 97 E Class in a few months ago as tiny bubbles appearing on both front wings. Dealer inspected it and said they would forward the case to MB, but not to hold out too much hope in getting a completely free repair. Hinted that MB would probably authorise a 50/50 split of the cost. Also told him to expect a month or two before MB made a decision.

The good bit!!
Within a few days he had a phone call saying that MB would bear the full cost including a repacement vehicle for a week, and the job was done two weeks later. Wings stripped from the vehicle etc etc, in fact a great job, you would never know it had been touched.

As I say, worth a try. (He did have a full MB service history.)
