Hi guys,

Merc E240, W-Reg.
Problem 1:
I have this problem with my side view mirror (driver's side). After the week or so of snow covering on the car, the side mirror was filled with water! Yes, three quarter is with water and looks rather gold and not the normal mirror reflection colour. Being silly, which I always am, I tried to turn on the heater for the mirror. Yes, it got a bit burnt on the bottom. A lapse of sense on my part there. So, what is the remedy, and it would be good to know the possible cause of it as well.

Problem 2:
My led indicator screen showed a malfunction. It reads 'check washer fluid'. I did top it up and realise that it does not work, i.e. the water does not spray to the windshield. What is the likely problem here?

Thanks a lot for your attention and help.

The mirror is leaking, and you must change the glass, if the liquid in it gets on the bodywork, it will damage the paint

Auto dimming reactive fluid. Mirror glass is very expensive but you could replace it with a basic glass if your a bit strapped at the moment...

Im having the same problem and have been quoted "silly" money for a stealerhip replacement. I have sourced a replacement from www.wingmirrorman.co.uk. I hope to order one in the next few days.

The replacements will not be auto dimming, they are heated - ideal when strapped for cash. Had a browse through Euromerc - very impressive. I have added it to favourites and it will definiteley be my first port of call when looking for parts in the future.

do insulate the 2 wires for the dimming so that they do not short out. the inside mirror should still work.

Another way is to remove the glass, empty out all of the fluid and use a stick on one from Halfords around £10 and the heater will still work
