I'm sure I'm not alone in this...

Got at least 2" of water in the front passenger footwell this morning, and some in the rear N/S footwell too.

This has been going on for some while, so I've recently cleaned and checked the drains either side of the heater air inlet (4 of them) and sealed all around the bottom half of the windscreen rubber with silicone stuff.

No improvement so far.

I guess it's possible that the sunroof drain tubes could be blocked, but I've no idea where the drains are.

Anyone had experience of fixing this?

It can't be long before the carpets rot away....

The good news is there's not a trace of rust on the floor pan. You have to take what little comfort you can.......

The sunroof drains are at the front of the sunroof channel and exit from rubber boots behind the front wheels. Normally these exits get blocked with crud but are easy to clear. Get a drain unblocker from B&Q (long coiled wire) and have a poke around.

Thanks guys, the sunroof drains were eliminated by taping up the sunroof just before a downpour.

Result: 3" of ****** water in the footwell !!

The (4) heater drains are completely cleaned out and run freely.

I'm getting a bit desperate here, so I 'm going to try taping-up the gap between the passenger side window and the door to try to elliminate that.

This has happened suddenly, no leaks in the spring and sunmmer (!) rain, now every little shower appears in the passenger footwell.....

It's had a celliular phone kit installed in the past, so I guess a phone installer won't be as thorough as Mercedes are when it comes to water sealing........something else to check...

Have you checked the two drains at either side of the lower edge of the windscreen? they are rubber and pass down to emerge above the front wheels, the drain tops are in the corners of wing/screen/bulkhead and collect leaves for fun.
If you like messing with water try a watering can full at each place that might leak.

Bit of progress...

Finally found that the water is coming in trough the hearer air outlets, the ones that direct air to the rear passenger's feet. They've got a join in them in the front footwells and this is where the water comes out, along with soaking the rear passenger carpets to a lesser extent.

I've discovered that the two drains in the centre of the air intake for the heater, (at the base of the windscreen) are where the water enters.....it then comes out into the footwells.

Now, these are deliberate drains for water running off the windscreen, they've even got small rubber boots in threm to funnel water into the heter plemum (as far as I can see). As this is deliberate, I guess Mercedes designers must also have engineered a way out, and I'm guessing it isn't the footwells...

Does anyone know if there are drains for the heater plenum? I would imagine they would exit much lower down the bulkhead (on the engine side). but they're certainly not visible from looking into the engine compartment.
I'm guessing these are blocked, and after the plenum fills up a bit, the water has nowhere else to go except along the air outlets and into the car .

All suggestions gratefully received, the carpets are on holiday in the house now, which I'm sure you can understand is very popular with 'er indoors..

I have the same problem only on the drivers side. Footwell fill up with water. Also the rear footwell is damp. Moved the car forward then hit the brakes fairly hard and watched water move into the front footwell from the rear. Could the water be entering from the rear? Thanks

Drain cleaning info needed too

Hi Malcom,

Ditto if possible to: n...@virgin.net

Been away on 2 weeks holiday to find similar probelm with my 300 CE 24 Cabrio. Will try to investigate source of the leak, but can someone please advise the easiest way to actually drain the water that's collected in the car already?

Have taken the driver's matts / sound-proofing out so just left with bare metal. Have sponged up what is visible, but there still remains a load I can hear sloshing around somewhere under my feet! There's no magic plug under the car I can remove is there?

Regards,
Neil
