Very sorry to say yes, the rad has to come out. The air con must be sealed to stop air getting into system.

Oh bother (!!!!!@@~~#)! Sorry does that mean that you do have to depressurise air con or not ? Sorry I'm pretty good with cars but aircon is different kettle of fish ! Thanks for your help ,

this means that an Aircon firm will remove the gas, and seal the system, and recharge on conpletion, It does seem to add to the expense, and is a little bit unkind.

Hi

Thats all wrong, radiator does not need removed!!!!!!!!!

Undo 2 clamps on top of radiator shroud, lift up off bottom locators
Undo viscous fan
Remove shround and fan
Release tension on belt
Remove belt
Remove pulley from pump
Remove pulley from tensioner
Push tensioner out of way of pump bolts
Unbolt pump and remove

Reverse to refitting.

Special tool(glorified Allen Key) needed for removing viscous fan

Hope that is of help

My info came from the MB service where it states that it is not possible with the rad in place, if it can be done fantastic, what a saving.

How much does a water pump cost? Mines at around the 'worrysome' mileage, and if they're not too expensive I might buy one to shove in the boot.
