water temperature guage

The temerature guage is malfunctioning. Sometimes it shows the temperature and then suddenly goes to the bottom and never comes up.,can someone who had this problem and solved it help me. Thanks

Take the wire off the top of the transmitter on top of engine at front, if by grounding this lead the gauge reads max, then it is faulty.

Okay television, i will try your sugestion.
The problem it works fine sometimes and dont at sometime. I will try out and see, then may be fit a new tranmitter. Thanks Television
