Waxoiling

I've just upgraded my W124 diesel estate for the multi-valve engined version.

It's common for W124's to rust where the front bumper meets the wheel arch. I was wondering if anybody had waxoiled their car to protect this area and, if so, how much it costs. Plus, does it work?

I've had a look in yellow pages and there isn't a category this service could fit in. So, where would be the best place to look - bodyshops/general garages???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Kevin

Waxoyl is supposed to be very good though the earlier in a car's life it is applied the better. I am not aware of any firms that specialise in it any more. It used to be more popular but manufacturers tend to rustproof their cars now so its no longer required. I would do it myself but failing that, any bodyshop should be willing to oblige.

Waxoil works but it needs doing regularly to remain effective. Also, once you've had the car treated you will have a hells job getting any paint or underseal to stick where the waxoil has been - so it's best to plan this carefully. My 911 Carrera was done, and I wish it hadn't been.

I don't know anyone locally (Bristol, aren't you?) but you could give Autofarm a ring (Oxford). They certainly treat Porsches, and may do other makes.

Their number is: 01865 331234. They have a website:

Waxoil

Mate, waxoil is brilliant ! use the clear for interior panels, or anywhere inside, and for exposed areas use the black, the secret is to keep applying it if on rusty surfaces, there paint does not stop rust, waxiol if done like I said does, I have some historic motors done with it, I recomend it Roy

You can get all the gear at Hellfords.

I haven't really done this properly, but when I'm in a door or something, I spread some around with a brush.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've been told it's really messy to do it yourself. Plus, my drive's on a slope and not really safe for jacking up and taking the wheels off. The road outside isn't suitable either, being a modern estate, it's fairly narrow and I would probably obstruct traffic.

I made a few calls yesterday and found a place in Bath that would waxoyl both front arches for £60-70 + vat or the whole unserneath of the car for £180 + vat.

I didn't think this was too bad. Would it be enough to only do the front arches as this is where W124's tend to rust??

Cheers,

Kevin

It's not that messy to do yourself, just a bit awkward- though I fun it strangely fun. I was under my car this past week spraying all me corroded bits. Messy if you don't like getting yourself dirty.
