Hi all
This is my first post I have a CLK320 last of the W208 a lovely car that has a reputation for rotting. My car is ok but is it worth treating the car with waxoyl or any other antirust treatment to prevent future rust issues. Your views will be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum.

IMHO - ANY anti-rust treatment can only be an advantage.

Others will be along to advise accordingly.

As Jez say, it can't do any harm, aside from the disturbance involved in applying it, but, the rust that tends to affect mercs of that era were under paint bubbling issues rather than the old rotting from inside the doors stuff that waxoyl is designed to prevent. Sadly there is no treatment for that.
If yours is ok now, then it's probably one of the ones that got away with it so I'm not sure I'd bother.

The dealers fill the doors with Waxoyl if they undertake any bodywork repairs so as per above it can only do good.

It can only do good but it is quite a messy task and I personally would only bother with it on a new(ish) car.

I have a large tub of waxoyl. If I do any jobs under the car [97 c250] I slap it on everywhere I can reach [ except brakes of course] but besides that I periodically brush the insides of the wheel arch rims and apply it there as I think this is the most likely place for flaking to occur leading to serious rust.

Waxoyl, or equivalent, is better than no protection

My C-class was afflicted by the rust bug but received the full back-to-bare-metal treatment in all the rust prone areas. Now, every time my car is serviced my indie checks the areas most at risk, wheel arches, door seals, etc., and applies a coating of Waxoyl, or equivalent. Minor rust in concealed places can be halted by Waxoyl, e.g. in the door channels adjacent to seals, but the 'under paint' kind is more insidious and a trip to a professional bodyshop is unavoidable.

Some protection is better than none at all.

Waxoyl is good stuff :)

As a committed keeper of older MB's (well the Mrs thinks I should be committed anyway), I use quite a lot of the stuff, after a while you even get to like the smell ;)

Anyway, if you don't fancy the messy job of applying it yourself, take a peek at this website, the chap comes highly recommended in classic car circles.

I find Dinitrol much better than Waxoil as it has much better creeping properties so penetrates panel joints more effectively. I have used this product since the mid 1960s.
If you use Waxoil, heat the area to be treated with a hot air blower first until it is almost too hot to touch, or stand the vehicle in direct sunshine, also warm the waxoil, this way better penetration by capillart action is achieved.

Never tried Dinitrol, it does get good reviews though.

I put my Waxoyl into a large old pan, and heat it up on a camping stove (yes I know thats dangerous, but it works for me), and then put it in the high pressure sprayer. Hot waxoyl and a hot day, certainly allows it to get into all the nooks and crannies :)
