Guys,

Please help! Im going to explain the situation to you as best i can.
My car is a 1990 190E 2.5-16, aka satan's chariot - well, it may aswell be!

I have a clifford concept 50 alarm in there. Anyway in the fuse box there some relays at the back and there is a red wire which is bridging two points.
I never really gave this wire a second thought because everything was working as it should be.

Anyway the parts guy at the dealership said that there really should be a relay in there. Part No: 0015420219. So i bought this and fitted it.

Turned the car on and the ABS light came on. Hmmmm, i thought. Turned it off, then per chance turned the ignition to the 2 position which illuminates all the bulbs on the dashboard and i noticed the triangle light for the ASD and the ASD light itself were not illuminated. I started it up again and drove round to my friends, on my way i tried to lower my window it would not work. Tried all windows, all seem to be dead.

Came back home and removed the relay and put the wire back in. I think in the fading light i bridged the wrong points and i heard a popping noise followed by a faint smell of burning. Then bridged the right points but nothing doing. Windows still dead, ABS light on, ASD triangle and ASD light off at ignition 2!!!

I checked the OVP and changed it for a new one, no difference at all. All fuses are fine.

I contacted the previous owner who said that the red wire was put in there by the people who installed the car alarm and should be there.

Im so saddened by all of this! Prior to changing this relay all was well. Could this have really messed things up that bad!??

Further i changed out the air flow sensor. Turned the car on and it was idling sweet, no problems. Turned it off, then on again and the Idling was all over the place. Anywhere between 500-1500RPM. Its an auto so if i shift through the gears its almost as if its going to stall and sometimes it does.

The OVP relay is new. So is the Idle speed control valve. Infact the entire Injection system is new. Could it be that it needs to set up by a Bosch service centre?

Any help, advice, anything would be really appreciated!!!

Thankyou so much...

Cosworth problem.

I'm afraid, from experience, there are not many people on this forum with knowledge of the Cosworth models.I think you might be better off trying to get on to some of the Cosworth and 190 specific sites with your problem. There is a German Cosworth site that is very good .....if you can decypher their translation into English !
One place to start though is the Russian parts site.Their web address can be accessed from a previous thread somewhere......Karanor is their name.
If you look, in that site, for car 201 035 190 E 2.5-16v
then sub section 54 Electrical Equipement and Instruments
then sub section 045 Fuse Box and Relay
you will see the part number you refer to at item 164.
You may be able to work out, or get someone that understands electrics, to work out what has happened from the parts listed.Your parts man may not have understood the word "optional" !.
Hope this may be of help........R.H.
