These fake convertible roof trestments were quite popular in the US when I lived there in the late 80s and early 90s. Mostly seen on late model Cadillacs, Buick, Mercurys and the like, driven by aging hipsters. The kind of car where the chrome trim has been gold plated.

In the 70s when vinyl roofs were all the rage,one company made a vinyl effect paint,you just sprayed it on and as it dried gave a very good effect.

With all of the Ex police cars I bought I had to fit a vinyl roof to hide all of the holes in the cars roofs.
