Still finding stuff out about my first Merc...94/M E200 estate. First night of heavy rain over the weekend resulted in a wet drivers seat. No sunroof, door was fully closed, seal looks good, window fully shut...any clues you can offer me? Looks like it's not the first time given the stain on the squab.

The only thing I can think of is the roofs drain channel on the drivers side or the bits where the roof rails clip in...otherwise I dunno.

Hi

Mike65 is on the right tracks. Common misconception is that people think that the sunroof seal should keep the water out. They are NOT designed to do that. The roof drains will be the culprit unless your very unlucky and the drains have been blocked for a long time & corroded the sunroof cassette. Suggest you not only check the front drains. In the corner of the roof, can be seen when roof opened & they drain to the rear of the front wings. But also the rear. Should drain to the rear bumper. Make sure they are all ok. The roof relies on the water draining away faster than it can cause a problem. Works effectively whey the drains are clear.

Good luck

He has 'No Sunroof' so it cannot be the sunroof leaking!

Do you have a roof mounted aerial or mobile phone antennae?

The mobile aerial is mounted on the tailgate, the radio aerial is on the offside rear wing, as there's no sunroof, the only holes in the roof are the standard fit roof bars. So unless water is running uphill or there's some major capillary action going on, it's got to be the roof bars I guess. Anyone know how the trim clips in on the roof, and how easy is it to drop the headlining? Beginning to think I should have stuck with my trusty Volvo 240 estate....c'mon, I need reassurance here!!

Which part of the seat was damp? Check the headlining along the right side along the door area. I dont know how the rails clip into place I guess you need to check for vivible screw fittings or risk levering one end and seeing what happens! (maybe not!)

Hi Andy,

Does this apply to W202 as well?

Thanks
