A very interesting article about ATF and how it has evolved to cope with high temperatures in modern engines.

I never knew that Whale Oil was used in the past!

I also find the final recommendation about separate trans oil coolers very appropriate given the problems people have been having.

Heat beyond a certain point does cause serious problems, this also applies to electronics where conductive paste has gone hard

Interesting chart about transmission lifetime and temperature of the oil.

All temperatures in degF, this is an American chart.
