Under both front seats of my W124 280E 1995 there is an electrical cable coming through the carpet to a red connector fastened to the seat chassis. The cable then goes up into the seat squab. I don't have heated or electric seats so anyone know what the wire is for? Just curious, as they are not there on my wife's 1990 230E.

The cables lead to your seat belt anchors.

Talbir, there are two wires to the connector and two out.

Spike, you may be right as they do appear to go across to the seat belt anchor points but do you't know why?

On a 1990 model you probably don't have an air bag but you do have a seat belt warning lamp near the interior light.

Unless you buckle up the warning light will remain on and on Coupe models, the seatbelt presenters will not retract (for a predetermined time).

As Andy says, they are for the SRS on your 95 car.

They cannot be for anything else unless the car is a coupe, where seatbelt anchors are connected to seatbelt presenter relay.

The seatbelt warning light is not connected to seatbeltanchors - it works on a timer relay, activated by door pin switches.
