We have a 1993 190e fitted with original Blaupuunkt Paris RCR 42 Radio cassette, on the back of this unit is a bank of 3 connectors but only the lower two are used, so in theory Blaupunkt could have supplied a CD changer

The options for the car when new lists a Becker Mexico 2000 at £3k

Anyone had any success fitting a CD changer to this age of Radio? if so what model?

Alternatively whats the option to fit another unit ie a different Radio + single CD, most of these modern units have tiny controls and over spec'd
OR
should we replace with a 1990's Radio which could be linked to a boot mounted CD changer
the CD changer model A08 looks likely ???

Your advice sought

Footnote: anyone know the correct order for the CD wiring into a Blaupunkt unit? I hope to borrow one over the weekend ; wire colurs are White/Yellow/Blue/Black/Pink/Brown/Red/Green, so whats the correct sequence ?

Does it look like this?

If so then it is not the original radio. I have an autochanger connected to mine and most Blaupunkt autochangers will work with it.
I will look up the model numbers later

Bazza its the male connectors, three sets of about 10 metal prongs, the radio connectors on the frame just slot into the back of the Paris unit.
I'll have a look at the site you mentioned

Blaupunkt changer

You'll probably find a CDC-A08 will fit, or the earlier CDC-A03. The 8 has a flying lead on the changer with a round plug. The end of the extension cable has a flying rectangular multipin plug that mates with part of one of the empty plugs on the Head Unit

Plenty on eBay but make sure you get the cable, magazine & mounting brackets

Cable routing

Without having the seats and carpet out, the only practical way is to pull the door kick plates and feed the cable through under the carpet and drop it into the vertical gap between the sill & carpet. That's on a W124 and I suspect the 190 is the same

I would definitely run a couple of spare (single) cables while you're doing it. It's not a job you'll ever want to do again

The CDC-08 has a circular DIN plug but you can buy the complete cable with square plug at the head unit and DIN for the changer.

The best way to run the cable is to remove the rear seat and one front seat. Makes it much easier and is not hard to remove them. Just remember that the petrol tank is behind the rear seat but there are oval holes that allow you to run a cable through to the boot. If you need more info just ask

I was going to install a Multichanger but after listening to some that are 6 months old they dont seem worth it... most seem to jump and skip after a short period of time so I just bought a JVC MP3 Player Headunit. Cost £75 from Argos but they are now selling them for £60 and it is excellent. you can fit about 10 - 12 albums on one disc and just put it in the player. Another good thing with the Mp3 player is you dont need to run wires from the front to the boot ;)

But, If you want a Multichanger, another easy way to install one is to just put it under the front seat.
