I bought another W123 200 today very cheaply for possible spares. it's a 1981 according to log book. Everything works. All dials reading: temp. oil pressure etc etc However looking around under the bonnet after I got it home I saw these 2 connectors with nothing connected to them, front cylinder head left hand side. My red W123 200 has the same but has connections to these. The one I bought today seems to be bog standard apart from original electronic ignition ( I think it's original). Seems to be a trigger/whatever mounted above engine front pulley wth cable going up to dizzy but then cut off and not actually connected.
Anyway any help identifying whats what would be appreciated especially the one marked 2 on arrow

Smart + others :)
1 is the engine temp fan switch I think but normally a different colour.
2 is the distributor vac temp advance/retard.
There should be another one for the temp gauge.

Thanks for that info Star. There was an 16" electric fan (unbranded) in the boot of the car that works. I'll run a wire from it to that No ! connector and the other to earth then run the engine up to temp and see what happens. My regular '83 W123 200 has wires on all those connections but has the magnet freewheel type fan and vac advance retard tube goes to inlet manifold as per. Ah well. I've nothing planned for tomorrow so might as well have a play with those connections and see what happens.
