What does the vacuum on lights do?

Hi,

I just noticed that a vacum hose has broken on my headlights. There are two hoses going into one connector, then into the rear of the light. One of the hose connectors has snapped, so it is just lying reduntant.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do these vacuums actually do? :Oops:

They move the headlights up and down. There is a control somewhere for this.

To avoid dazzle to oncoming traffic Gary when you are heavily laden in the rear. There is a control (usually a 'wheel' type) in the car which is set according to passenger occupancy etc.

It goes to one headlight and then to the other. A breakage here will affect other vacuum units on the same circuit.
