What does this light on dash mean?

I have a 1994 C200. On some occasions, an orange light appears on the right hand side of the instrument cluster. I don't know what it means as I have no manual for the car. All I can say is the symbol on the light is exactly the same as the symbol on the headlight switch. The only difference is that the orange light has an exclamation mark on it too. Anyone "enlighten" me?

I have a bulb out in the rear number plate. I assume it is picking this up. Cheers!
