what DOT to use in A class

Hi

Why cant Merceedes Benz Service Dept/spares tell me what DOT is the brake fluid in their 2 li bottles

Can I top up with Esso dot 5.1

MB only use dot 4.1 5.1 is two steps up from it so it's better than they supply. And to answer your question, they probably dont know!

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
It should be marked on the cap of the brake fluid reservoir.

An excellent idea.

Just checked on the car. It says use Dot 4+

What is dot 4+ ???

Here is a little background reading. DOT 5 is Silicone Based and not compatible.

To answer it simply it's what it's boiling point is. It may say Dot 4 on the cap but put in the Dot 5.1 much better if you can.
