What engine do I have?

Looking through this forum I notice members talk about their cars as Engine codes rather than their car model. How do I confirm which engine I have in my B200d?
I've tried to find out myself but the car is a 2015 and that year engine numbers seem to have changed .
Th V5 isn't any help as the engine number stated there has no resemblance of what you guys are posting.

Thanks for that Anthony, when I put in my VIN it thinks it's a BMW? Rather strange...

We generally refer to the model code rather than the engine unless specifically talking about the power unit. So, your 2015 B Class is a W245.

I’m not sure about your engine because the B200 either has a petrol 1595cc (M270) or a diesel 1796cc (OM651) according to Wikipedia. That says the B220 diesel has the 2143cc engine.

Yes, so call it a W245 when you want to get technical but “B Class” will mean just as much to us! Wikipedia is obviously not up to date on the engine options.

So, does my W245 have a timing belt or chain? I note this car is Ulez exempt for London but other cars I've had, they've had to be Addblue equipped to make that standard.
The W245 doesn't have addblue, so how does that work? The V5 is blank under the "Euro Status" bit but must be Euro 6 compliant to be Ulez compliant??

You should have an A5 size yellow folder in your car's document wallet which contains your EU Certificate of Conformity, the emissions standard is stated in box 47 and your engine type in box 21, great name by the way, my kids now call me Victor!

Are you using the VIN from the plate near the windscreen or from a document which may have a typo?
It could also be the web site so try another as there are a few free ones available.

I've also used https://www.lastvin.com/ in the past.

Thanks Anthony. That link worked. It says "Euro 6 technology exhaust gas cleaning" what ever that means? I've looked in the manual and in the car, no sign of addblue filling place.

Your VIN number will start with something like WDB245xxx2Fyyyyyy

The model of your car is 245.xxx and the yyyyyy is the chassis number.

For example my SL500 is WDB2304752F0yyyyy
Model number is therefore 230.475.

The engine number is similar.
It will be something like 651xxxyyyyyy
The first three digits are the engine family, the second 3 digits are the sub model and the remaining numbers are the serial number.

Ditto with gearboxes however they almost always start 722 and the next digit describes the model and the next two digits are the variant

For example 7226xxyyyyyy is a 722.6 5 speed gearbox, xx is the variant and yyyyyy is the serial number.

but apparently you can appeal if you believe they are incorrect.

Your car is a 246.208 - your gearbox needs the next digit added so it will be a 724.x if that makes sense.

Incidentally if you see people talking about an engine being an Mxxx it's a petrol engine, if it's OMxxx its a diesel.

That means SCR. Euro 6d is specifically selective catslytic reduction for diesel exhaust gas.
