Hi Guys, I have been having trouble with gearchanges on my W202 C-class. The revs go very high before I get a change from 1st to 2nd, hard gear shifts from within 1st to 3rd. and no accelerations when I put my foot down suddenly. The mechanic says I need a MAf change (after reading some codes:confused:), which as you all konw will cost a fortune! I do not want to spend money when I dont need to. Can anyone tell me what the MAF has to do with the gearchange and whether changing it will really do the trick? Thanks in advance.

Yes sounds like the MAF, another test it to drive forward upi to 30 ish, slow and stop, put into reverse and if it doesnt select reverse in hurry then MAF is faulty.

As JIB above, the gearbox is closely related to the engine output BHP, when the power is down (MAF) then the gearbox does not know what to do so it can hang on to the gears.

You could unplug it and try the car, it may not idle well unplugged but the full output could return

Hi Jib,
Just carries out the test and I think the MAf is gone. I am still curious though. What does the MAf have to do with the transmission? I thought it measured air intake into the engine and let the ECU know how much fuel to throw in?
