Perfect time to flush the coolant system if the coolant is old, esp with that set up.
My W220 was like night and day when I changed the stat some years ago, it was only getting to 60.
Good point buddy

That’s a nuisance, I assume you are talking about the rear plates. The front ones are only screwed into a plastic moulding. Don’t know what to say there, I had the same problem on an old W204 and ended up with a small amount of damage on the boot lid panel behind the number plate. Good luck with that one :(

Yeah the rear plates.
The way I ended up doing it was breaking the old plates off, not an easy task I’m afraid, and soaking the screws in WD40. I then used pliers on the screw heads as the screwdriver slots were knackered. They eventually came out but I ended up with a small amount of distortion in the boot panel. Good luck :)

the screws into the back are normally metal to metal and the screws rust. Spray spray spray otherwise you will get a snapped screw in the recess and be peed forever.

That may not be an issue as she intends to mount the plates using double sided tape/pads :)

think you can take stat out drain everything, fill with water, clamp down w/out stat) run, empty, repeat 2 times. Use coolant system cleaner, will be crystal clean. Refill with coolant mix and new stat in. Wont need doing for 15 years :)

a good chrisfix vid on youtube

if the pads go on the projections on the rear boot lid there is not enough hold on them alone. Needs some buffer pads elsewhere.

Yes I had to put about five layers I think to clear the raised bosses that hold the nuts on the rear panel on the boot lid :)

I have now driven the first 1000 miles in my Mercedes. The mpg has been better than expected, especially for motorway driving where the car is in its happy place just cruising comfortably. I have had a South Coast/South Downs (Sussex) road trip in it and I look forward to others in the near future.

Washed and part polished with Collinite.
Added some Collinite to the wheels too now I think the paint is hard enough.
No diesel in the local BP garage :(
