Thanks :)

I've just always hated throwing stuff away if it can be repaired - even if it is just a plastic casing with a reed switch inside.

Figure what I've saved the environment over the years like that at least partly offsets driving old diesels

A horder eh  I'm the same, even keep electrical switches that one day I just might pull one apart to see what's inside, guess you have saved me on this one :D

Started on the installation of the waeco cruise control - hope to have it finished tomorrow. I have a similar setup in my old (same age as the e300 d estate) Hymer s550 motorhome, that has the 2.9 5 pot n/a diesel in it.

Opie Oils send it sealed in a bag…

I think I'll be using them in future for my fluids,
MB Peterborough cost me nearly 50 quid for 2 litres of ABC fluid, not impressed as my local motor factor can supply the same stuff for £39
I bought 14 litres from Grangemouth for £140 before they stopped fluid sales via courier.
Anyway, it seems that my valve block replacement has been a success  it took 1.75 litres to bring the levels to the marks and the suspension raised immediately the button was pressed, so all bleed and awaiting the next complicated job :D

Changed the ar filter. The old one was really grotty, so took it out for a test after and - not in limp mode!

Gave it a drink to celebrate. Back in limp mode.

Changed the fuel filter. Took it for a test drive to put a bit back in the battery after the endless cranking to get it primed. Not in limp mode!

Got stuck behind a tourist at 20mph for a mile or so. Back in limp mode.

My cheapo ELM scanner is showing no codes and all live data looks reasnably sane, the EML isn't on, and no dash warning to visit workshop.

Guess I may have to find somewhere with Star diagnostics. Could be fun on Anglesey!

How quickly do you need it out of limp mode? £50 on an Autel OBD and the one free download you get for the MB library should do you fine.

No real panic because it drives fine as a relaxed cruiser even in limp (we don't have many real hills to slow it down round here).

Sian, who it's really for, didn't even realise there was a problem compared to her old Daewoo. Bur I hate things that don't work right and reluctant to go out buying scanners myself that may or may not read this thing.

Basic ODBII seems to recognise the ECU and show live data but can't read fault codes. I'm guessing that the "specific" MB ones like icarsoft MB would be able to but none if them specifically say they will and they're on the pricey side for "buy and see" tools which have no other use.

A little annoying that the same model a few months later had to be standard ODBII compliant!

Got the drop links ready to be fitted to the CLK.
Ordered a full set of OEM (used) door speakers on eBay and am currently in the process of installing some JBL speakers into the door fittings so it’s a panels off, quick swap operation and I can swap them back if I sell the car.
Have to say though, it has been a monumental faff trying to get 15.5cm speakers for the rear door section. In fact have ordered some 6x4 ovals to see if they will fit as the sizes go 14.5, 16, 16.5cm but not 15.5 :mad:
No way am I paying £25 for adapter plates.
If these don’t fit then time to make some plates myself.

The Autel will definitely work. An ‘03 C class will be OBDII compliant but only for MB-specific readers.

Ordered some nice fresh Millers and a spanky new filter from those nice people at Opie Oils.

Also failed again to find a reason for limp mode. Seems to happen at near enough exactly 10 mins after starting, at exactly the same road junction each time!

Drove to Normandy over the weekend, legs of 42.2 & 39.3mpg. Thought of Russ and his daily trip computer snapshots and then completely forgot to do any myself.
