Mine used to literally take hours so I seldom use the online option nowadays.

THIS LINK should work for you and will let you download all available updates to a USB (Min 16GB, ideally 32)
Useful, thanks!

Taxed it. :)

Well, it's taxed from tomorrow, I've got it at the front of the drive at the moment to give it a quick once over, basically checking things are working. I can feel a trip to Mercedes coming on though as one of the heater vents is doing a lot of banging around.

This has been a complaint from when I first bought the car and mentioned on every service. Initially it was more like a forced air noise and only for a few minutes when starting from cold, like a vent wasn't fully opening, but this seems to have developed into a constant flapping thing. The first time my dealership told me a software update had been applied though obviously, both to me and a respected indie who has heard it, this wasn't going to fix what appears to be a hardware issue. I've been fobbed off another couple of times but now it's louder it will be going back. The car's well out of warranty now though I'm hoping for someone in the dealership to realise that it's been an ongoing issue and, as the car has still done considerably less than 10k miles, apply a bit of common sense, or at least some goodwill. I'm not holding my breath on this though so will probably get it sorted by a specialist. I also have low confidence in the abilities of the dealership to strip a full dash without it being rattle/squeak free upon re-assembly.

Wish you luck, you are entitled to have high expectations with an S class so they should help but I guess they are not called stealers for no reason....

Sounds like a job for @Steve@Avantgarde on Saturday ;)

Called into my local dealership today enquiring about my noisy heater vent issue.

They couldn't look at it there and then as they were too busy. To be honest I would have thought that they'd be able to get someone to stand by the side of the car as the noise is audible from outside, a loud chattering initially, changing to a forced/squeezed air sound. However, company policy etc. etc. so it's now booked in with them in just over a fortnights time. There will be a £150 charge for this initial inspection which, although not exactly enamoured over, I understand as the car's going to be tying a bay and a fitter up for an hour or so.

I asked the receptionist about a goodwill gesture due to the full service history and low mileage. She passed this down the line to their warranty person who was pretty non-committal so we'll have to play that one by ear when they get the initial inspection done. It could still be going to an indie to get sorted yet as, if I get no joy with the warranty, I don't fancy paying Merc's labour rates, especially as it could involve a full dash out to repair.

That's a pretty disappointing, yet expected response Dave, considering you have mentioned the issue every service.
I'd remind them of this when they hit you with the invoice for investigation.

To be honest Roger, I may not even bother taking it in to them.

As you state, they've had it mentioned to them on numerous occasions and done nothing, why should they be any different now?

I'll have a chat with one or two indies who I know, even if it involves a bit of a trip I know the job will be done right. Annoyingly I was speaking with Olly at PCS today on another matter and forgot to mention this yet he is aware of it as he's been out in the car.

^ I don't blame you Dave. Frustrating but almost expected from MB dealers nowadays.
It's difficult to find one that stands behind the product and gives great after sales service.

Olly is probably your man anyway. At least you know the job will be done right.

I’d go down the consumer rights route with MB if they don’t play ball. A car costing as much as yours and with such low mileage should be “of merchantable quality” for longer than it has.

I also get your “is it worth it” and “time and effort” and that’s a balance only you can answer.

I could have got the ~£110 back for the nuts and bolts etc for the subframe replacement in my SLK. It just wasn’t worth my time and effort to do it though.

Took the Merc down to my local indie today just to get his opinion on the heater thing mentioned previously. Even before he came outside to it he reckoned a stepper motor, quickly confirmed as he heard it as soon as I opened the door. He also suggested a potential cause for the forced air sound I've been hearing since purchase but I'll be leaving that initially, one job at a time.

After this diagnosis I decided to phone the AMG customer care people who, after listening sympathetically to my problems, have promised to escalate the matter, agreeing that it shouldn't be happening on such a low mileage car. It's also been decided to use a different dealership as I'm getting a bit disillusioned with the one I'm currently with.

It's now a wait and see scenario...

Have you got a recording of the stepper motor sound you are referring to?

I only ask as I got a "ticking" sound come from my Aircon vent yesterday which went away when I turned the Aircon off and back on....
