Used the old girl the bring the wife's hair dryer back to life. Originally used the van but for some reason it didn't have the guts. View attachment 64569
I like some of the old fashioned rituals! Jump starting dead cars!
Haven't done it for years but now my stepson has left home and is getting interested in cars - twice in a month!!

Unusual for my R171 to be out in this crappy weather, she's normally tucked up in her garage with the battery conditioner on. Trouble is we can't get to the garage loft when she's in there, and guess where the Xmas decorations live!! Dried and put her away 2 days ago, wife then decides it's time to take all the lights and decorations down, so now we can't get into the garden shed for the boxes that should be in the garage loft. Have to get her out again, loose the boxes, then put her away again until the weather improves.

Are the tyres directional?

Chinese tyres I'd imagine, all I know is they are 16" but good call, the tyre chap agreed with me to swap left to right. Weekend job along with new side marker light on the lorry, note to oneself, must not drive with curtain handle dangling.......knocks off marker lights

The new media player is fitted, Hooray.

It arrived by DHL from Hong Kong.
The original Audio 20 cable plugged right in, one other cable connected for the reversing camera connection.
I used a video cable from the player to the rear hatch door.
That was a struggle to get through the concertina rubber cover near the door hinge.
Connected power to the rear camera where the cable at the passenger side reversing light is.
Getting cables routed without taking every internal plastic panel off consisted of passing some 1/8" I.D. nylon fuel line as the mouse and the video connector pushed into the hose and a bit of insulating tape the increase the securing.
Smart phones connected by Bluetooth, three spare USB cables routed from the back of the player to the canteen tunnel console by the gear shift.
Only slight annoyance is the low hum from the speakers when not being used.
Might mean a clip on ferrite core or some shielding to the audio cables. But apart from that, job done.

Changed the oil using the £11 suction pump from ebay. Not much else to do today while on strike.

Mine just pulled off, make sure you buy some new clips as the ones on the car will break.
Have you got any tips for removing lower front grille? People (and mercedes are saying put a screwdriver in the access holes.. I just can’t figure out how to release it?

Smoke test the Inlet, you probably have a leak somewhere. Also read the codes with xentry. Pretty sure boost pressure control needs adaptions reset.

Thanks, I changed the inlet, well, replaced the gasket previously. Was worried it might be that, but a local indy carried out a leak test and inlet was fine (pheeeeeeew), but boost pipes were leaking which I've changed. I'll see if I can do the adaption with the SnapOn otherwise try and get hold of xentry. Thanks for the advice.

My SL500 has the factory fitted AMG bodykit so the lower front grille is different to the standard SL500 lower grille.

Managed to see my mechanic and sort out the A/C. It looks like it was not working just because it was low on Freon. There was no leak found in the system so I had a Freon fill up and everything is working as expected, at least for now.
