My 9 month old E class has asked me to add 1ltr of oil. I am concerned about the usage. I also had to add 1lts oil at about 6 months. The dealer said not to worry as the engine could use oil in the period of running in.
It’s now done almost 8k. Certainly run in!
My old E350 never used a drop between services, same went for the C220!
Has anyone experienced anything the same?

most manufacturers will cover themselves by suggesting up to a litre per 1k. Whilst I've not had experience of this particular model (Good choice by the way, any pics?), I've had various diesels using up to 3litres per 10,000 miles. Normally just a litre though.
I've never added the full litre when asked as overfill isn't a great idea

My then- new E220 didn’t use any oil at all in its first 12,000 miles. It then had a free service, which included an oil change so don’t know how much extra was added if any.

I’ve just had MB dealer on the phone and he says that there is nothing to be concerned about.
Virtually said the same as John.
Thanks fellas.

My W213 E220D would use just enough oil to warn it needed a top up right before a service... Never failed to get it to service though...

well, if you owned a pre GEN 3 Mini, the 1.6 PDA engine, you would be adding far more oil and Mini/BMW say is normal. We gave up on our old R55 Clubman when it got to as much as a litre in a week, about 400 miles. (115,000 miles)
As we are suckers for punishment (and my wife loves her Mini's) we bought a 2017 1.5 D cooper to replace it.
3000 miles, not used a drop !!!!!!! (funny old world init)

My CSL63 can use no/some/some more oil depending on driving. It's a bit unpredictable but not any amount I'd worry about.
My Maserati used no oil at all, my Bentley used around 1l per 2500 miles.
So it appears it's turbochargers that use oil. Not the engine itself??

Make sure the level is at 3/4 - full after service and then keep an eye on it.
it could be that it was refilled at a lower level at the last oil change.

Off topic, but my Audi A3 2.0L drinks oil and has done so since new. Oil test was done and was under 1L per 1000 km so within spec.o_O I always keep a litre in the boot for the many times the light has come on away from home.

I just ordered a new Mercedes. Sure hope it's not oil thirsty.

E320 CDi, I've had one occasion where it asked for oil between services. Changed oil a couple of weeks ago. Checked it the day after, said add 1 litre. I didn't and the next day it said ,'oil level OK.
So, not a great fan of no dipstick technology.

Just to say, our old ML270 has its fair share of problems, but can say it goes from oil change to oil change without using any oil at all, or if it does, its very minimal.
