Has anyone any idea what the new bits of street furniture are that are appearing at the side of dual carriageways? The are overhead devices that resemble a five way sprinkler system with what may two angled detecters at each "sprinkler" point. At each point one head points straight down the other is angled towards the oncoming traffic.

If they are a new camera device then why are they five way on three lane carriageways?

They jut out well over the nearside lane but do not span the whole carriageway.

Don't worry - they are NOT cameras - they are part of the TrafficMaster programme.

Mystery solved, they are not part of TrafficMaster but the fixed location number plate recognition cameras for the new London Low Emmission Zone which came into effect today. There are also some mobile units roaming around as part of the same scheme.
