What is COMAND exactly?

I know this will seem like a very stupid question to all you hardened Mercedes owners but it is all very new to me.

I have just ordered a new E320 for delivery on 26th March and have now been told that my car is actually going to have COMAND and SATNAV although I did not order it let alone pay for it

My question is, where can I find more info on what this is and what it will do? The dealer didn't have much to say and nor did the MB web site!

Am I correct in thinking I can play DVD movies in this unit? If so, is there any legal stuff over playing them whilst moving? I have read that you can re-program the unit to allow playback of movies whilst on the move. If so, is it illegal to do so or is it just a safety issue? I would like the kids to be able to watch whilst I drive. Is this legal?

Hi & Welcome,

You can only get the comand to play DVD's on the move if you have a rear screen fitted. Any mod to allow the front screen to show movies whilst driving is illegal and also very dangerous.

As it is a £1,900 option on the new E Class you have done quite well - assuming you had a good deal on the price that is.

Thanks for the info, looks like I will be leaving it as standard with no DVD's on the move for the kids to watch then.

As for the price, who knows if I got a good deal or not because everywhere you go you get different pricing! At the end of the day I got a price for the car that I wanted.

I was happy with the price quoted and told it was a factory order which I expected. I was then told that there was the exact model I wanted in the UK ready to go apart from the fact that it had the COMAND SATNAV installed. Then I was told if I was prepared to take delivery before the end of March it would be £2000 OFF the original price my my factory ordered job!

So it's arriving next Monday!!!

Excellent, I was playing around with Drivethedeal on the weekend and could get the E320CDI for between £36K-£37K depending upon options. One thing I don't like about the sport is that the interior can only be in black, other than that I think it is an excellent car.

Noting your remarks on the colors of the leathers, the range does seem to have been cut down making it difficult to match up with some of the exterior paints.
