hello all, fixed my previous probs, my box is 4 speed and fine. and the hesitation problem after heavy diag session at stealers turnt out to be cam shaft sensor. (half the price of ones vauxhall sell oddly)

anyway, not sure what this new thing is now, yesterday at approx 60ish i felt vibration from the back, pulled over and checked my wheel nuts etc, all was fine but noticed a kind of electrical burning smell from back passenger side wheel. anyway, set of and seemed normal again (maybe heat?), got home this evening and my hand brake pedal sinks right to the floor all of a sudden??? still works just but could any one help please, and could the two issuses be related?

thanks

If one of the rear brakes was binding, and stuck on, that would be the smell, the chances are now that it wants new brake linings, a very simple job.

They are almost certainly related. It's probably the cable that has siezed somewhere. The drum part will be stuck on and there will be a lot of slack in the cable.

I would jack up the rear and see if the wheels are moving or not, with the brake on or off.

(remember to put it neutral)

Your parking brake yses shoes inside the drum/ disc, remove rear wheel, take out the 1 retaining screw in drum, and it slides off, if the lining had not not burnt out you would have had to have slackened the shoes off,via the hole in the face of the drum.

Do note the posistion of the springs, carefully lubricate all of the moving parts before you refit the new shoes, making sure that it all moves freely, wipe off any surplas oil.

It's a Kwik Fit sort of job, an hour tops I would say. It is easy enough to do it yourself but you will probably struggle to work out how to slacken of the shoes if haven't done it before.

(I never use my handbrake to avoid this sort of thing)
