I have a 2003 C240 AV Se and I have noticed there is a little lever inside the armrest (when you open the whole thing, not just the top). It is towards the front on the left hand side and moves in a 45 degree arc. Anyone any idea what this does?

I take it your talking about the central armrest, if so, the lever is for the air con, you can direct cold air into the box. Great in the summer for keeping your drinks cool

Hmm - is this not fitted on later cars?
I have a facelift (late 2004) C-Class and it surprised me that the centre armrest box doesn't get cooled by the a/c, and there doesn't appear to be any way to make that happen - and nothing that I can find in the manual about it (although it does have a couple of grilles inside)?

I don't know when it was introduced or on which models, but I had a 2003 C180 Komressor Sport, it wasn't mentioned in the manual either, but cooled the beer nicely!

I can't find it anywhere in the manual for mine either but it is definately there, and you can feel the air stop and start when you adjust the lever. Which aircon option do you have? I noticed there are 3 or 4 different types. Mine is the climate control without the electronic display. Looking at the manual it's one of the middle options. Maybe this has an affect on this lever being there or not

Sounds like I had the same as you, I just turned down the air con and adjusted the lever 'till cold air came through, I no longer have the car and replaced this with a SLK which does not have this option.

Sounds the same CC as mine - maybe they took the lever out on the facelift versions.

You couldn't post a pic, could you? Although I'm certain it's not there and nothing appears broken.

I'll see what I can do. For reference, if you open the centre console arm rest (bottom bit) the lever is about an inch up and an inch in from the bottom left hand side at the front. It sticks out about 5mm and slides in an arc over about 90 degrees. The vent is then infront of the lever.

I'll take a picture shortly and post it. Unfortunately it's a small black lever inside a black box so it may not come out well....

Many thanks - it's simply not there on my car. The only vents are towards the back of the box, one on each side.
I do think it's strange that I can't cool the contents of my box
I guess MB must have deleted this capability.

just angle the aircon nozzles down and turn the aircon onto full. Hey presto, a nice cool box.......wonder when this thread will get removed?

I did actually start this as a real question, honest!

funny how these things turn up. I had my Audi for about 2 years before I realised there was a little sun-visor that you could pull down behind the rear-view mirror.
