OK Chaps
I have recently purchased my first MB. Its a C250 Turbo Diesel, 5 SPD Auto of 1998 vintage with 67000km on the clock. Great condition one owner vehicle. I am very lucky to get it as they are rare as hens teeth here in Australia.

I would like to hear some feedback on any issues you have had with this model especially in the engine/transmission department, I am told they are extremely durable in both areas.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a workshop manual-preferably on CD ROM?

MB Diesels run in my family, my father had a 220D, 240D and a 300D, however my other vehicle is a VW Tdi Golf, also a great car though not as solid as the Benz.

I look forward to many years of conversing on this forum.

Hello daryl, Cant answer anything about diesels as I do not have the time to ride around in one, but of coarse they are fine for holidays, etc (I can hear the fireworks already)

Re CD was my real reason to answer was to ask you kind of work did you wqnt to do on the car, just normal service or to take the gearbox apart.

Yeah OK
I currently do absolutely everything on my golf Tdi. Diagnostics, coolant pump, cam belt change and injection timing etc. I dont intend to do this level of work on the benz at this stage but in years to come she's only going to get older and will eventually take the place of the golf as our second car. So I guess I would want a manual that is more comprehensive than not.

The C250D is fairly bullet proof so you're starting with a good base. I drove one back in '99 for a week - thought it was a bit of a Jeckel and Hyde, initially 'what an underpowered lump' and then the turbo kicked in ....!

Just make sure all the regular service items have been done, including the auto trans fluid and filters and if memoy serves, the diff fluid - was a 40k mile job on my 220. It's all in the service book. So long as everything has been done to spec, you should have a great car for a long time.
