What mileage would members say is too high to buy at? Talking a S320 CDI 2001-2003, plenty available under 10K at about 80K but have seen some nice 2003 facelift models at over 100K.

What do members think about over 100K mileage? I know when I had a 1990 200E that didnt matter but the build quality of the early 00s I know wasnt the same. Would members buy an over 100K car because the price was good for the spec/year?

Some say that 100K is ok, others say a low mileage one, in all very hard. I always buy on condition, OK I bought my SL at 15k miles, but I did see tatty ones at 30k miles, the extra's also come into it for some but not others, the colour can influence the price, its not only engines, as they should be good for a very long way.
At 40k, some need suspension parts and disc, a minefield in all

hi kheath74, meeting the owner and discussing the car's history is the key attribute. eg; if you came to buy my car, 1997. e300 td. 7 seater est. 190k miles. i would show you my service history, the person who owns the car is as important as the car itself, you can soon tell if the owner has a passion for his/her car, basically everything on the car can be renewed, so you observe what has been done. the big lumps, high cost items, eng / autobox, with oil and filter changes are good for 300 k. driving the car, looking for signs of oil/water leaks etc. i paid 51k for my est. in 1997. ( every extra was fitted). i have spent 6k to date, and the ride qual / perf. are still the same. the owner and the history and your ability to examine the prospective vehicle are the key. good luck. herbiemercman.
