Hi,

Im looking to replace my standard alloys on my cl500 to amg styleIII ones.(like the cl55)

Ive seen some with these offsets: front ET34 rear ET31.

I dont really understand what that means but would like to find out if these will fit my CL.

Can anyone help? either with the meaning or just if the'll fit.

Many thanks guys,

eddie.

Thanks for the reply Malcolm, i'll check it out.

Just another question, does it matter how they sit?

What i mean is, if its within 10mm or so, does that really matter?

and if so how?

Cheers mate.

Unless you want your car to "tramline" or dictate to you in which direction it wants to travel, then stick as close to the original offset as you can.
There is also the possibility of tyres rubbing against bodywork, suspension etc.

Thanks,

Is that the case if the offset is more or less than original? or both?

Sorry these may seem stupid questions but i havent got a clue.

Also do I ever need to take into consideration the brake caliper with these offset measurements?

cheers,

eddie.

Both.

If you stick to the original offset, you will be OK.
(see table already posted)

Smaller diameter wheels could infringe brake caliper,
so stick to same size or bigger with original offset.
Bigger wheels require tyres that keep the same rolling circumference or speedo, gearing will be changed.

The danger on modern cars is with the ESP if you change the off set then your car could mis handle

Your allowed +/- 4mm on the offset and no more. With the CL there maybe problems with stability control and other systems on the car it the offset is wrong.

Right thanks.

theres so much I dont know and need to learn.

I still dont know what to do. I think I need to see a wheel with different offsets and actually see how it will look and feel on the car.

Gut feeling is to steer clear of the ones ive seen.

thanks, guys

When buying wheels they must be made for MB as MB wheels are whats known as Hub centric, that means that they center on a flange on the hub, and the bolts just hold them on, and have nothing to do with the centering.

The CL500 is one of the cars I love, an all time great car,

Can you put some pictures up please.

When you have been posting for a couple of years you do not notice the post count

Perhaps this is why i've been having some of the problems with 'drifting feeling' post i entered a while ago? Mb told my my wheels wern't original, despite the fact they looked original with center caps mb badge on, when i went for some new bolts.
