I thought we had decided on an R230 SL350 without ABC suspension , but with full Comand. ;)

OP seems to have disappeared. Meanwhile, we have decided on SLK55, problem sorted. :)

Democracy doesn't work...:p

R172 350 I'd recommend or a R231 SL350

Yes, but then JBell found a 55 in budget, and we went off down that route. You know it makes sense.

I would love one to run around in, values can only go one way, (up).

Maybe if the OP returns, he can give us a steer.

All good apart from the below from the OP…;)

I do not have deep pockets for repairs.

Why not an R230 please? For his figures he could get a reasonable R230, or possibly a high mileage, low spec. R231 although I confess I haven't seen one for £14k or less.

R230’s can be expensive to keep going - SBC braking and swimming pools in the boot leading to serious water damage.

I think a 231 would be pushing the budget a bit ? Lovely cars, though.

As long as they're not used as a daily and you choose carefully, they don't need to be expensive. Ours is garaged though and doesn't get rained on cos its a wimp.

I used my r230 SL55 as my daily for nearly 4 years added 35,000 odd miles to her, not much difference in cost to the 2 r230 500's we had.
SLK, buy and forget, you don't even need pockets to run these, had 320, 350 and the current 250. Cheap, economical and reliable ;)

I think now that I’d rather have one without Comand.
Its old tech (hardware and software).
The optic system makes it hard to upgrade.

id rather have standard Audio - much easier to swap to a modern headunit which will have functionality streets ahead.

I think our SLK is Audio 20 as it is Pilot Sat Nav?
