So I’m going to look at a 2012 e350 cdi tomorrow and just wanted to get a bit of advice on the main things I should look for to determine wether it’s all good or not , thanks in advance.

Take a mat and a torch so that you can try and see the rear subframe. Ours has just rusted through! Fortunately, MB is paying for its replacement.
Other than that, look for any oil leaking down from the rear of the engine (oil seals on the turbo and oil cooler). Listen for chuffing noises that might be leaks around the injectors. Usual wear and tear items, otherwise.

Mine is 11 years old & I have owned it for 10 years. Only had 2 faults a turbo boost sensor gasket, & a leak from the flexible power steering pipe.
I agree with the comments above, & make sure everything is working.

We've been a bit less lucky! An air spring at the back when we first got it 7 years ago. A rear wheel bearing. Sticking rear brake. Turbo oil seals. Front struts and top mounts. Engine mounts worn out. Seized front caliper. There have probably been a few other smaller things too. But we have decided to keep the car for the foreseeable future...

Look for poorly- fitting wheelhouses/ wheelarch liners. The 212 is notorious for a wheelhouse to pop one edge out from the flange formed in the wheelarch metal. Mainly on the fronts too.

Bought a 2011 plate one last week, look for a FSH ideally main dealer and as few owners as possible. I endured a 5 hr train journey to Birkenhead and a 4 hr drive back home for the 'right one' so its worth traveling for.

Very happy with it.

I got one on Monday , had a total headache buying it though, on Sunday I took a 2 hour shitty train journey there and then spent about 3 hours trying to pay the guy because my bank wouldn’t let me make the payment in any way whatsoever. Had to get the train back again , got home at 9.30 pm and had nothing to eat all day. Next day went to the bank and got it sorted , took the 2 hour train journey again but got it all sorted in the end.

What’s the mileage and how much did you pay for it?

Haha!...I trusted the dealer and paid in advance of pickup. Glad you got it sorted and hope your drive back was good?

I paid £9.5K its done 70K and was the spec/colour I was after. Meticulous service history with MB.

You can pick one of these cars up for £5K but am happy paying a bit more for a good one.

Just got it detailed, new windscreen next week and just ordered a new steering wheel from ROYAL have used them before and they do a great job.
