Just found a couple of e-bay,
one from a M(L),
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-Merc...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4abd0a61ce
and another from an ML,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a262f8f63
Though they are all essentially the same engine they do differ slightly as regarding the sump pans, oil pick up pipes, some have coolant take off points in the head others don,t, the starter is mounted on a different side on some of them as well.
Also swapping 430 engine to a 55 is very straight forward to as the 55 engine is effectively the same though expect to pay more money for one.

Do you have the old tranny? :D

No, the 43 gearbox and TC is still in the car mated to the 55 engine, though I have been considering fitting a CLK55 box and converting my car to tiptronic.
A 43 GB and TC second hand is a rare beast, have you issues with yours?
They do occasionally come up on E-bay though i have only seen two in about five-six years.

No Paul it won't.
I bought a c43 off a guy on the other side with a blown tranny (no jokes please). I knew the power train had gone but purchased it nevertheless. I want my c43 on the road for next summer! I am getting to the point where I might have to bite the bullet and buy the components at a cost of £900, in order to get her running. They are very hard to come by :(
I only paid £1200 for the car and apart from some rust which can be sorted, it's lovely.
Alternately, if there is a 55 engine and box going I would be interested!!!

Blimey Andy....you do like a project dont you mate:shock:;)

Well I have done quite a few "little" projects on my 43, culminating in fitting the 55 engine, which I was told by numerous people it would,nt be possible.
It took me nearly four years to save up the money, locate buy the parts and then convince somebody to do it for me.
I believe through me doing the first one that was posted on the UK forums, I now know of four or five that have now had a 55 engine fitted and I believe two more are going to be done in the next few months.
After covering about 20k miles in my car since the 55 engine was fitted I have a weeping rear main oil seal, so not one for letting an opportunity pass me by when the GB and TC are removed to replace the seal I thought I would do the tip conversion
I just need to find a good 55 Tip GB and TC, new gear selector, and instrument cluster, and a couple of wiring looms.

Thats a shame... i know the gearbox is there to do a job but wrongly assumed the engine / gearbox sizes would all still of fitted together:rolleyes:... i know the 320 gearbox may of had a bit of a grumble at having the extra power put through it though:lol:

Hell... in some of my friens old VWs some of them are running some serious power...one has a 1600cc gear box with a 2.4 turbo engine mated to it.... i know its only a matter of time till he kills it once the lights goes green and he floors it:lol:

A genuine 43 AMG GB is rare as hens teeth, though you could fit others the ratios would wrong, the exact pt. no. of a 43 box was only ever fitted to a 43, and has very specific TCU software.
Mine had covered about 130,000 miles when I had the conversion done and decided to have the GB and TC rebuilt and new valve body with a years guarentee for a bargain price too.
