what year is safe rust wise

i'm curious with all the talk of rust on mercs, what year if any is safe from rust, and if that year is let's say 2004, is that because the rust hasn't had a chance to appear yet ?

so, here's a wee poll, if you own a merc, look at the years above, if your merc has ANY rust then vote for that year.

Sadly I can only have 10 options so this was all I could fit in.

Mine's a 1998 W210 E240 estate with rust on the rear offside quarter around the petrol flap and on the tailgate by the number plate lights. I 've also noticed a blister on the front nearside wing which I'm reluctant to investigate further in case it's eaten through the panel underneath.

C220 Cdi 2001

I have had a BOOT LID REPLACED and a FRONT WHEEL ARCH REPAIRED under warranty, the underneath has a lot of surface rust which will need treating with waxoil before winter sets in.The fuel line from the tank rusted through causing the car to suck air instead of fuel.In 40 years of car ownership this is the worst car I have owned.I have only had it a year but as soon as i get it back from the garage it will be up for sale and never again will I buy a mercedes

My Baby is a early 1998 w208 and hence only carried a eight year 'goodwill'
rust guarantee. However she is in the bodyshop as I type this having (I hope) the rust eradicated and the paintwork resprayed including the Bonnet which is covered in stone chips. I have been verbally assured that the work carries a lifetime warranty ?

I have to say that apart from the rust/paint issue that she is almost perfect and hence worth spending £1100 plus on the bodywork.:-D

my E200K estate is 2001 -- rust as above

I have a 1991 190E and the only bad bit of rust on it was around the rear jacking point under the car but thats all been sorted now. Its virtually rust free. I have had it for 2 years now and only spent £23 on it (£12 last year for front pads and £11 this year for rear brake hoses)

Have a W220 S320CDi. Noticed rust on all four wings earlier this year. MB replaced both front wings and fixed all rust last month. No hassle.

2000 210 - all the usual suspects - fixed by MB never to return
2003 211 - traces on the rear wheelarches - fixed by MB
2004 211 - nothing yet ......

My 2001 R170 has a 2" rust break out underneath the boot handle, but my 1998 has no rust anywhere ? go figure

W203 2001 front anf rear wingrust issues, repaired by Mercedes

1999 W202 AMG C43 - Small blister round the boot lock (need to get that looked at TBH) and a small pinprick on the right hand pillar behind the rear door - looks like that could have been a stone chip though Not counting another pinprick or two on the bonnet caused by stone chips which are both typical and unavoidable really without using some form of paint guard. Otherwise nothing much really thankfully - 99.9% of the car is clean as a whistle 8)

2002 ML270, rust on the drivers side rear passenger door in the centre of the panel and just starting on the inside of the two rear wheel arches low down in identical places.
