Dear all - a Question - I popped into the local Merc/BMW indies last night and asked how much to change the ATF on my E class 220cdi as the car has done 90,000 miles.

They mentioned that the fluid is £50 a litre and the box takes 4 litres so it would be £200 in parts alone and then labour on top.

Is that right? cos it sounds ****** expensive! Im sure Ive read on here that its done cheaper elsewhere or is £200+ the going rate?

Thanks

Matthew

Hi,
I was quoted £125 for fluid and filter change on my C43 Autobox, this i,m pretty positive was using Genuine filter and oil, and my box has 7+ litres. This price was quoted to me a few months ago.

I have a 1998 - C200 W202 with 5 Speed Auto 722.6 Transmission. I had my Auto Fluid changed just before Christmas at my local Independent here in Norfolk and on mine you "can" drain the torque converter. They used 7 Ltrs of Auto Fluid, fitted a new filter and sump gasket. I also had them change the Rear Diff oil and also check all the drive train Universal Joints, drive shafts, bearings etc. Total Bill came in at just under £200.

Hope this helps as a guide!

I paid £75 for 8 litres total inc vat from the MB dealer just before Christmas that was with a 10% discount,, but I did the refill myself, it retails from the parts counter @ about £10 per ltr. but you have to remember that with all franchised dealers that Sales, Workshop and Parts are seperate entitys and therfore each must profit from each other as it is the customer who is paying..

I think genuine Mercedes fluid is about £9 per litre, Your gearbox will hold 4 litres and the torque convertor will hold 3 litres. It's not worth just changing the gearbox fluid without the torque convertor also !!
Sounds like the place you went to like to rip people off and don't know hw to do the job properly anyway :???:

I cant help feeling this too, yes it is possible to pump 3 liters of new fluid through the oil cooler and that will change the torque converter fluid
