What are the parts in a replacement clutch kit? I had a new one put in and the gear changing if fine but there is a noise in neutral (sounds like hissing).

Is that the release bearing or input bearing or what?

Mike.

Is the noise you describe present in neutral with the clutch depressed or NOT depressed?

The parts are ==drive plate==presure plate and release bearing or it is called the thruss bearing sometimes.Hope this helps.

NOT depressed. I took it to a mech today and as the bearing was replaced by him last year he reckoned it was the spigott (sp) and that it was nothing to worry about from a mechanical point of view.

Does the sound go away when you apply light pressure on the clutch pedal?.....If so, the 'hissing' sound is probably caused by a stationary thrust (or 'release') bearing which is still in light contact with the spinning pressure plate. The thrust bearing will 'slip' against the pressure cover until such times that the thrust makes full contact against the cover when the pedal is depressed.
The thrust bearing face should have been lightly greased on assembly, if it wasn't, then i suspect that the 'dry' face of the thrust is what is causing the hissing sound during the time it is 'slipping' against the pressure cover.

Hope this makes sense!!.

You may find this 'hiss' you describe will disappear once the clutch friction plate has 'bedded in' properly. It is very unlikely to be the crankshaft spigot bearing. (Tho' if it is don't worry about it).

Cheers, I dont think I have anything to worry about. If I had a radio in the car I proberly would'nt even notice the hiss! My mech said if I had anything to worry about the noise would be much worse - a rumbly/graunch sound.
