Hi,

I have a 1985 500SEL (W126). I bought it with no books. A couple of questions...

Can somebody explain what the settings are on the gear shift. There's a little position bottom right labelled B. What's this for. I don't think it's backwards...

Also, on the centre console to the right of the heater switches, there's a switch with a light bulb symbol on it. What happens if I press this?

I might not have to ask these daft questions if I had an owner's manual. Any idea where I can get hold of one?

Thanks

Andrew

Button

The button turns on the rear interior light.

On my 1988 420SE, there is a "B" but it is not a button. You have to move the gear slector down to "2" and then click it accross into "B". That function on mine allows the car to start off in first gear. Under normal conditions, the car will always start off in second otherwise.

Aha - so it's the rear light. My bulb must have gone - that's why this button does nothing.

I'm confused by the second post - what is IIRC?

Do not give up on the MB dealer - You will probably find that you can order a replacement owners manual for suprisingly few ££.

PS: IIRC = If I Recall/Remember Correctly
